There are few things I like more than laying on my couch in comfy clothes watching binge-worthy shows on Netflix. After the kids are in bed, I find watching Netflix to be really relaxing and enjoyable. Sometimes I’ll unwind by catching up on my favorite current shows that I’ve recorded on my DVR throughout the week, but most of the time I enjoy watching and re-watching my favorite current and old binge-worthy shows on Netflix. And typically, I’ll wear a t-shirt and shorts or a pair of comfy joggers like the Love Row Jogger Pants by Draper James and the matching Love Row Ruffle Knit Tee; it’s a comfy outfit and I’m a sucker for anything with hearts on it.
Below are my top picks that I recommend binge-worthy shows that are on Netflix this month.
This Netflix original show is so funny and unique. I started watching season 1 of Santa Clarita Diet late last year and I was hooked from the first episode. The premise of the show is that a married mom in her 40s (Drew Barrymore) mysteriously becomes undead and starts eating people.
During season 1 they’re trying to find out why she’s like this and how to feed her hunger for human flesh. What I love about the show is that it’s about zombies, but it’s not your typical horror zombie show. It’s funny and has elements of a sitcom that also happens to feature a woman biting into other people.
Season 2 of Santa Clarita Diet was just released on Netflix a few weeks ago and I’ve already watched it several times. This show definitely qualifies as one of my new favorite binge-worthy shows.
Nailed It is another Netflix original show (Netflix has really been stepping up their original content game lately). It’s hosted by comedian and MTV personality Nicole Byer and it’s basically like cupcake wars or cake wars, but with contestants who are definitely not skilled bakers. The contestants are average people who try to recreate complicate cakes, cupcakes and cake pops, with hilarious results. This show is great for a laugh, and as a baker myself, I always enjoy when people realize baking isn’t as easy as it looks. I’m seriously hoping for a season 2 of this show, because it’s so entertaining!
If you’re not familiar with Gilmore Girls…I’m not sure we can be friends. The general idea is that it’s a show about single mom Lorelei Gilmore raising her teenage daughter Rory in the small town of Stars Hollow, where the characters are quirky and the coffee is always flowing. I loved watching this show in the early 00’s because it depicted such a unique and sweet mother-daughter relationship. And the characters of the show felt relatable to me since I was around Rory’s age when it originally aired.
Gilmore Girls is the definition of a binge-worthy show. I love everything about Gilmore Girls and I could watch every episode over and over again…and I have. There are a few episodes that I skip through and I have my favorite seasons, but overall I always enjoy starting from the beginning and watching the show all the way through. In particular, I like that I’ve seen every episode so it’s a great show to watch when I just want something on in the background that I don’t have to pay direct attention to.
Drop Dead Diva originally aired on Lifetime and I obsessed over the show when it came on. The show follows a 24-year-old model, Deb. She dies in a car accident and her soul goes into the body of a stuffy lawyer named Jane. It’s hilarious. And like Gilmore Girls, I’ve watched every episode of this show multiple times. If you’ve ever seen it, I’d definitely recommend checking it out. The show goes through Deb’s experience living her life as Jane and her growth through the process. One of the things I really love about Drop Dead Diva is that it’s a comedy that also has elements of a law and order procedural show with lawyers, cases and courtroom antics.
iZombie is another show that I discovered on Netflix. It’s currently airing its fourth season on the CW now, but I originally started watching the first few seasons on Netflix last year.
I was bored and looking for something new to watch when I saw iZombie pop up in my recommended shows section. This is another zombie show that’s not your typical zombie show.
The show follows Liv Moore, a medical student who attended the wrong party and becomes a zombie. She then starts feeding her brain-eating habit by working at the city morgue. Liv eats the brains of the recently deceased.
When she eats a brain, she’s able to have random memories from the dead person. Because she can see the memories of the dead people, she can often see how they died. She then starts working with a local police officer to solve crimes.
I like the show because it’s a comedy with a law and order procedural element to it.
One thing I’ve learned is that binge-worthy shows can be great from time to time. If you need to unwind, if you’re looking to detach and relax for a bit, binge-watching is great. Just make sure binge-watching doesn’t take over your life! I know it is easy to get sucked in when you’re binge-watching on Netflix, but that can be ok sometimes. As long as I have comfy clothes and tv shows to binge, I’ll be ok.
